Diet and optimismAn interesting study out of Japan has shown that those who have a positive attitude are less likely to lose weight than those who require counseling in order to change their lifestyles. This does not mean that enthusiasm and positivity have no place in a healthy lifestyle, and in fact, it was discovered that being self-motivated and optimistic is crucial in the maintenance of weight loss results.

But the study, conducted on 101 obese patients who were struggling at losing weight, found that it was ultimately the therapy that worked to change damaging attitudes and lifestyle habits that garnered the most results. This included nutritional and emotional counseling, as well as monitored exercise, such as would be found from a personal trainer.

Researchers say that the results, published in the journal BioPsychoSocial Medicine, are significant, but not an end to the issue. Instead of showing that only therapy is useful, it shows that accountability upheld by someone else is an effective tool in pushing obese patients to lose weight. This includes providing encouragement and assistance when needed.

Certain supplements, such as acai, hoodia gordonii pills, bitter orange, and other natural products have also been found to provide an effective boost to weight loss.
