Obesity is a growing problem in the Western world, and it is increasing at a rate that has medical professionals calling it an ‘epidemic’. It’s a serious issue, one that has led to more diet products-based websites, television shows, and books then ever before. But along with those promoting healthy lifestyles there is also an increasing market for products and fad diets that promise major results with minimal work.
It is just this type of thinking that has led to America’s growing obesity rate in the first place, with too many people looking for the easiest, and least active, way of life. Sedentary lifestyles and fast food are ruining our health, and it is time that we took an honest look at the misconceptions that have been perpetrated by the weight loss industry.
Diet Myth #1 – You can eat what you want a still lose weight!
While it is true that you won’t gain ten pounds from a hamburger, stating that anyone can eat whatever they like and lose weight is foolish. It is all about moderation, and while you should feel free to indulge in those high calorie, loaded with fat foods once and awhile without guilt, it should not be a regular thing. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is by eating a well balances diet, full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats.
This doesn’t mean that you will be unsatisfied, in fact, you can eat more of these foods safely then you could the higher fat choices we make in our fast food world on a daily basis. You will even start to find that fresh, healthy food tastes better then the greasy, overcooked, artificial ones that you probably grab during your lunch break.
