District Attorneys File Lawsuit Against Diet Pill Makers

The manufacturer of three popular weight loss products have had a lawsuit filed against them this week after it was discovered that their pills, which boasted high concentrations of hoodia gordonii, in fact has none of the plant contained. The lawsuit has alleged shady business practices, false advertising, and illegal manufacturing.
The three products names were Hoodia Gordonii, Dex L-10 and Hoodia Gordonii Dex L-10 Complete, all manufactured by Delmar Labs. According to advertisements, as well as the packaging on the supplements, they contain high amounts of hoodia in each pill, allowing the user to lose weight more quickly. They cite various studies about the ingredient, as well as media sources that began calling hoodia a ‘miracle plant’ back in 2004.
Tests on the supplements found that no hoodia gordonii was in the products, but this should have come to no surprise to others on the market. Hoodia gordonii, a plant found in the South African desert, has to have a certificate of authenticity for harvest and use, a certificate that Delmar Labs were unable to produce.
California prosecutors in various counties are seeking restitution to the consumers that bought their product, a closing of the labs, and penalties for the company.
