Liver Damage Causes FDA To Ban Hydroxycut
Reports of liver failure have caused the Food and Drug Administration to ban the popular diet pill Hydroxycut. According to a report released by the FDA, there have been twenty-three reported cases of liver problems, with jaundice at the lighter end, and one death at the more serious. One user has been given a liver transplant, and one more is awaiting the same operation, after it was found that the organs were too damaged to continue functioning.
Because the patients had been otherwise healthy when the symptoms were reported, each case has been linked to the over-the-counter diet pill. It is unknown what ingredients within the pill may have caused the liver damage.
Other side effects have been reported, such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, muscle weakness, stomach pains, muscle damage, heart murmurs, and seizures. If you have experienced any of these symptoms, and have been taking Hydroxycut, see a doctor immediately. If you have recently bought Hydroxycut, the FDA urges you to stop using it immediately, or return it for a refund.
While the cases are alarming, they are far from unique, and according to Consumer Reports researcher Ano Lobb, there are still many unsafe diet pills, mainly pills containing ephedra like chemicals.
“You really have to be careful about dietary supplements, especially diet pills,” she explained.
