As more people begin to give up smoking and hormone replacement therapies for women with menopause, you would expect that the number of cancer cases would begin to go down, both being leading causes of the condition. However, researchers now say that the leading cause of cancer is likely to become obesity, which already attributes to an astonishing 20% of all cancer cases.
Excess fat has been linked to various types of cancer, the most prominent being breast and endometrial for women, and colorectal for men. While these are all directly linked, others have been found to be linked as well, usually worsened by obesity, though researchers disagree on exactly why this is the case.
Despite this data, as well as that showing the other health problems caused by obesity, many people are still unable to lose weight. Doctors believe this is a chemical or biological problem, rather than just one related to willpower or willingness. They are looking for new, more aggressive treatments to help the process along, and hopefully stem the epidemic that is raging through society.
Among those treatments currently being used with success are incorporation of diet supplements with a regular diet. Those made with ingredients such as bitter orange, green tea, hoodia gordonii pills, and various other natural extracts have been found especially helpful. For those looking to lose a larger amount of weight, ephedra has been found to be helpful, especially under the supervision of a doctor.
