If for some reason you haven't heard it, it means simply to take the time to enjoy the journey instead of always being focused on your goal. So many people will focus on getting more money, for example, and find out they have lost sight of their families along the way.

You don't have to pay for an expensive gym membership in order to reap the benefits of walking since you can do it any place at any time. The workout you get from walking can easily be changed by varying the intensity and duration of your walk. You vary intensity by either changing speed or changing the grade as in walking uphill. This gives you the ability to have a great cardio workout while improving flexibility and building lean muscle mass.

The healthy benefits of walking go beyond the simple exercise value of the activity, though. If your destination is within a reasonable distance, walking instead of using the car will save on gas as well as have no impact on the environment. A fringe benefit is that you will avoid delays caused by traffic and reduce wear and tear on your automobile.

Walking can also be a social activity, if you choose to walk with a friend or even a group. Unless you are walking extremely fast, you should be able to comfortably talk as you walk along. The exercise alone can help alleviate depression as it elevates your mood but using it as a social outlet increases that type of affect even more.

Walking does have multiple benefits , after all, going far beyond simply living a healthy lifestyle. So next time you think of hopping in the car to go down the street, try grabbing a friend and walking instead. You will be able to visit with your friend, save money on gas, clean up the environment and get a cardio workout all at the same time.
