Acomplia Pills – Helps Lose Weight and Quit Smoking .
Acomplia (generic rimonabant) is mainly an anti-obesity pill used to help those who have been unsuccessful in losing weight with simple diet and exercise plans. Known as a CB1 (Cannabinoid-1 Receptor Blocker), Acomplia blocks certain receptors in the brain and organs that help metabolize sugars and fats. These receptors are part of a recently categorized system known as the EC system (endocannabinoid system) which plays a crucial role in the regulation of weight and energy balance within the body.
This medication is generally used as a complementary treatment to a diet and exercise program for patients who also suffer from Type 2 diabetes and elevated blood levels of fats. The manufacturer, Sanofi-Aventis, also claims that it can lower the risk of heart and other cardiovascular diseases but there has not been sufficient research to prove that conclusively. Patients that will find the most benefit from Acomplia pills are those with predominant belly fat resulting in waist sizes of over 88 cm in women and 102 cm in men.
Does Acomplia help smokers ?
Sanofi-Aventis has also done several studies that seem to show Acomplia pills can help smokers quit the habit. These studies were performed with over 6,500 smokers who already expressed a desire to quit. As a result of the positive feedback, the company has applied to the FDA for approval for the drug to be used in smoking cessation. The FDA has issued a non-approvable letter for that purpose.
The clinical trials done on Acomplia have shown that the drug reduces a wide variety of cardio risk factors and that it is helpful for sustained weight loss programs. Roughly half of the participants also exhibited improvement in cholesterol levels as well as blood sugar control. These improvements were more than what is normally experienced when just losing weight.
Acomplia : is it a miracle pill ? Or does it have some side effects ?
The major side effects in the trials were nausea and vomiting. Almost 20% of the participants experienced side effects of the degree that made them drop out of the studies.
While Acomplia is still waiting for FDA approval before it can be marketed in the United States, there are more than 40 countries where it is already approved and in use. One of the more recent approvals was in the European Union, opening up several countries including Britain, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Finland and Norway.
